Diabetes Treatment FAQs

People who have been diagnosed with the condition will usually have lots of questions; here are just some of the most common diabetes treatments FAQs. Remember thought that the information here is only meant for general guidance and for proper advice you should always consult your diabetic team. Here though are just a few of the diabetes treatment FAQs that will generally be asked.

Diabetes Treatment FAQs

Does a Diabetes Diagnosis Mean I'm going to die Soon?

This is probably the most pressing of the diabetes treatment FAQs and the one that will first spring to people's minds. A hundred years ago and such a diagnosis would have been like a death sentence but times have changed and there have been some major medical breakthroughs in the treatment of this condition. This means that most people will be able to live a relatively normal life once the condition is brought under control. If diabetes is not controlled though, it could easily mean that people die a lot sooner than would be expected.

Do I Need to Take Insulin Injections for the Rest of My life?

Not all diabetics need to have insulin injections regularly. It depends on the type of diabetes you have been diagnosed with. If you have type 1 diabetes then this means that your pancreas is unable to produce insulin so you will need to have insulin from another source (either injections or a pump). If you have type 2 diabetes then your pancreas is able to still produce some insulin and it may be possible to control things with oral medications and lifestyle changes.

Is There a Cure for Diabetes?

This is another of the most common diabetes treatment FAQs. Unfortunately there is no real cure for the condition, but who knows what will happen in the future. The good news is that the treatment of diabetes has improved immensely over the years and there are now some very effective treatment options. Most people with diabetes will have the condition controlled before it can cause too much damage to their bodies.

What Caused Diabetes?

Of all the diabetes treatment FAQs this can be the toughest to answer; there are a lot of possible causes depending on the type of diabetes. Anything that affects the ability of the pancreas to produce insulin can be a cause. Here are just some of the most common causes or contributing factors; hereditary (passed in the genes), physical damage to the pancreas, alcohol abuse, poor diet, lack of exercise, infection, sexual transmitted diseases, obesity, and hypertension. These are just some of the possible causes and this is why it can be difficult to answer the question precisely.

What is the Most Serious Type of Diabetes?

The most serious type of diabetes is insulin dependent diabetes (type 1) because the pancreas is not able to produce insulin. Any type of diabetes that isn't controlled has the potential to be lethal though and should be treated seriously.

So there you have just some of the most common diabetes treatment FAQs; remember to speak to your diabetic team for more relevant advice.
